Vintage 1960s Apollo 3 piece Dum Shell Pack – 13/16/20 (219-2)

Description

Vintage 1960s Apollo 3 piece shell pack. It’s bit of a Frankenstein kit. A previous owner removed the wrap (he said gold sparkle) and painted the shells with a granitone-type paint. A generic tom holder was installed on the bass drum and rack tom. The floor tom had newer leg brackets installed. The bass drum also had about 7 lugs replaced with generic coffin-style lugs which did not fit the original hole spacing, so there are extra holes in the bass drum (see last few pictures). I happened to have a donor drum with the correct lugs so I swapped them out so they all match again. The holes are covered up. The 16″ floor tom has the original 5mm tension rods on the batter side, but the reso side has been swapped to standard 12-24 along with the lug inserts (just something to pay attention to if you pull heads). The rack tom and bass drum have all original tension rods with washers (5mm on the tom and 6mm on bass).

Structurally the shells are fine. No damage aside from the previously mentioned holes. Everything functions as it should. The kit includes a tom arm and an old snare stand for the rack tom. It’s a cool vintage beater kit that sounds good without breaking the bank. More pictures available.
